What you need

Set it up in UTM

  1. 1

    Create the VM

In UTM choose Virtualize, then Linux, then Skip ISO boot. Set 4 GB RAM and 2 cores.

  2. 2

    Import the disk

Delete the blank drive UTM adds. Use Import Drive and pick the qcow2. Keep UEFI boot on.

  3. 3

    Boot

PurposeOS signs in on tty1 by itself and starts the session. A loading screen shows progress while models and apps install.

  4. 4

    Say hello

When the desktop appears, press Super+V and say “add to journal”, or press Alt+Space and type.

Sign in as kd with password purpose. Change it after first boot. The image signs in for you.

If something goes wrong

Prototype. This is an early build for aarch64 VMs. Booting in UTM is the part least covered by automated tests, so expect rough edges and tell us what you see.
